Description:

The battle for the crown in the Supermoto Sport will now be played on the road. Husqvarna and I want him to take the KTM to cut Nuda chair.

In this article: KTM 990 Super Duke R, 900 R Husqvarna Nuda.

Hi Jo, we have the brand new Nuda R and R the SM with ABS, “the PS-boss snorts into the phone. “Do you have time?” Immediately my thoughts explode like New Year’s Eve rockets. Man, what a horny Order! In my mind’s eye I’ll beat even across the passes up and down and indulge endless acceleration wheelies.

“Hey, are you still there?” Uwe pulls me out of my daydream. “I know because a kart hall in Rottweil to test drive and photo, the weather is so lousy!” Boom, bubble burst. I can do just a click disappointed “Ah, okay.” Peals of laughter at the other end. The entire editorial staff listened well to my sighs: “Just kidding, yo! The hotel is booked in southern France. Come to invite her, departure is tomorrow! ”
I can hardly believe my luck. End of December, I again find myself at the foot of the most brilliant mountain passes of southern France. The sun is in full format in the sky, the sea rushes with a roar into an adjacent bay and next to me is Sven with the two test bikes KTM Super Duke R and 900 R. Hus qvarna Nuda the brand-new tires are our only limit. Only when hanging on the flanks is in tatters, the end of test.

The Nuda R I make a start. I like this one or the other visual detail is not yet so real, is the seating position of a piece.

The knees are among the widely spread spoilers much cooler place, similar to a single cylinder. The sporty, hard seat immediately tells the required driving style. By pressing the start button troubled not just me. The staff of our hotel immediately turn her head, her eyes search the source of listening pleasure. Incredibly, this wonderful V2 babbling.

And in a series from the BMW twin-shelf. Husqvarna, thank you!

Excellent is also the very wide and straight handlebars. Sporty correctly connects the street directly with the hands, but this also entails disadvantages. This extreme loads hardly cruising. Too high, the effort, because at low speeds, the front wheel drops into the bend and only by counter-steering, you can keep on track Nuda.

The same when braking in an inclined position. Here, too, steers the front wheel by itself. However, this was only noticeable when you travel in a relaxed pace, and then boom speeds. Assuming the whole sport on, the Nuda shows its true greatness and becomes a fully reliable partner.

With increasing speed, the curve is hunting for bonfires. Like it angled off, then stays exactly in line and is not impressed by power slides.

However, these must be provoked, as the Metzeler Sportec M5 fitted properly locked into the asphalt. As you go across it, sometimes not only pure but also across the wheelie out of the turn out. In all of these games right on the edge, the Nuda R acts super reliable, supported by balanced engine. It depends only on gas with about 100 Nm, but is easy to dose. The Twin series knows no slumps and slides from the basement to the speed limiter always easy. There’s only criticism of the long gas path.

The transmission can indeed be bony, but still well off.

Unfortunately, the clutch does something against the Nuda. I would like to zusliden with the bike in supermoto-style on the curve. But neither too short nor clutch slip point the lack of a slipper clutch invite. So you risk a quick highside or stamping the rear wheel sends one straight. Both are here on the rather narrow mountain roads really not a nice moment.

The suspension was adjusted by us from scratch. Due to the tighter setting the fork dives under braking from much less, and the front wheel brake acts thus is no longer so aggressive. Also, the spongy feeling in the steering head, you get well, thanks to the adjustable Ohlins shock absorber is well under control.

In addition, the side stand is so much later on. Unfortunately, an insertion is missing in the side panel, so adjusting the suspension to be treacherous Schraubaktion.

The trampling over small waves with the now stiff chassis could be eliminated, however. Ergo, one should decide in advance how you want to be on the road. Soft and comfortable or sporty and tough. In between, there’s not much. Likewise, it is virtually impossible in the hanging-off to drive, because obstruct the driver’s passenger pegs to the necessary space – a small, verschmerzbarer blemishes and bonus for people with small feet!

The switch to the KTM is amazing. The 990 is so far untouched the reference. If you previously but with the ultra-agile Nuda down, the SM R feels at times just like a wet sack. But that sets up quickly.

Although you can feel the front wheel not as directly, but the KTM is building on their way after just a few corners of trust. Wonderfully neutral in contrast to the Nuda, with zero-effort steering, it follows the impulses of their pilots. So it can be effectively relaxed beat and iron through the Maritime Alps. If not for this potent V-2 engine.

And that’s not a contradiction! For each curve, whether in the first, second or third gear, you can accelerate out of the KTM on the rear wheel. The engine pushes significantly more than the BMW-derivative and the Husky knows no trailer! This creates just such a thing as stress, because you have to be at every halt to accelerate itself.

Who gets regulated, has a clear advantage in fun factor. And the KTM is not nearly as early as the Nuda. It was not until late grind the footpegs and completely safe to take because the raised ContiSportAttack huge slopes. We quickly a pleasant feeling of security, which is enhanced by the built-in model 2012 new ABS.

This ABS comes from the 990 SM T, is only applied sport and thereby controls later. If you want to penetrate to the control range, it is delayed almost to the force limit of the clamp handle. But beware! It also poses risks, especially when going downhill because of uncontrolled full braking and a rollover is despite ABS in it. For this reason, the KTM suspension of PS was adjusted radically new.

Similar to the SM R Nuda is too soft in its default setting. But that can change, yes the chassis offers high-quality components from the factory.

Sven and I are about the two bikes at the end of the last downhill on the gravel parking lot at 180 degrees. Now that the dust has settled, we reflect on our pedestals. These are not super bikes, which are power Motos – with the Nuda as the second representative of a completely new car genre. Ingenious thrust, set in super handy scene.

Interestingly, in a very different kind and polarizing Can Nuda conceal their origin from the sports department of Husqvarna little, it’s the KTM, which makes it rather inconspicuous meters.

On the passports could not settle on the other really. Nuda and SM R act on highest “Drifting Skills” and both bikes will find its fans.

The entry into the top class of the Nuda is managed and emphasize both twins, that fun, action, power and adrenaline do not always have to take place beyond the pale. These bikes could include the future.

Did the PS super sports-gas heads poked fun at the beginning or about me, things look different now. Now I laugh when the guys come back with stressed expression and long arms pulled from the Superbike test in Almeria. Sometimes less is more. Okay, sometimes!
