Get Your Vehicle Ready to Sell.
Even though you are selling your motorcycle in as-is condition, you want to make it as attractive to potential buyers as possible. Remove or replace worn out accessories and clean the bike thoroughly. Polish the chrome or stainless accents. Make sure any accessories that you will be selling with the bike are cleaned and mounted.

Keep a file with receipts and descriptions for major repairs or improvements. Include warranties that transfer and toss in any repair manuals specific to the bike you have picked up.

Set the Right Price:

Visit an online Price Checker Such as Kelly Blue Book. Enter the vehicle's year, make, model and the region the vehicle is in to see what similar vehicles are selling for on the Internet. You will be able to see the Average Retial Price or Trade-in Value at which a particular vehicle is selling. This will help you be able to not over or under-price your motorcycle.

You may want to also find out what the asking price is for models similar to yours in other industry guides and magazines.

Make an Investment in Your Ad.

If you are trying to sell a motorcycle that is worth several thousand dollars (or more!), don't be afraid to invest a little to make sure it sells quickly! There are many ads on Bikerbuys.com - make sure potential buyers see yours.

Bold Text: Buyers see bold text before plain text! The text of your ad is bolded in the search results page to make your ad stand out.

Purchase Now Link: Purchase Now is a feature that allows a buyer to purchase the item being posted right from the web site. Once a buyer has purchased the item using the Purchase Now feature, the seller is notified by email immediately and the ad will be closed if the item quantity has been completely sold. If the quantity specified is greater than one (1), buyers can use the Purchase Now option to purchase any amount of items from one up to the total number of items listed. If a buyer wants to purchase less than the quantity available, the ad will remain online until all items are sold or until the ad expiration date. Using the Purchase Now feature requires that a Price and Quantity be specified.

Gallery Item: Gallery items are designated with the special "Gallery" icon, and are chosen using the "Gallery View" option. An item must have an image to be a "Gallery" item.

Highlight Option: By selecting a Highlight option, an item is shown with a special background color of your choice in the listing pages. This is one of a variety of ways to make your ad stand out.

Featured Ad: "Featured" items are among the most attention getting listings available. They are listed at the top of their respective categories, and any matching search results.

Premiere Ad: A Premiere listing calls more attention to your item in a couple different ways. When displayed in listings, a Premiere item displays the associated Premiere icon next to your item. This can help call extra attention to an item in a when it appears in any listings. The user can also selectively look for Premiere items in category views. Most importantly, Premiere listing will also be displayed on the main Classifieds entry page at some point, regardless of which category or subcategory it is in.

Multiple Photos: Let potential buyers see the details! Having multiple photos allows you to capture your motorcycle from several different angles. Use your multiple photos to show things like your odometer, close-ups of any damage (or to show there is no damage), customized additions, etc.  You can ad specific text to descibe each photo.

One Photo: Potential buyers want to see what they are buying. Increase the likelihood of your motorcycle selling when you add a photo.


Enhancements cost relatively little and they work. They catch the eye of potential buyers and separate your ad from others on the page.
Include as much description as possible about your motorcycle. List the best features of the bike - such as low mileage or clean condition - first and be sure to include anything that sets your motorcycle apart.

Your description should reflect the best features of your motorcycle. Showcase your ad by using words such as "one owner," "brand new," "garaged," "fully loaded," "best offer," "one of a kind," "fully customized," etc. Be sure to include the brand names of accessories or parts that accompany your vehicle.

Working With Customers:

Set appointments to meet with buyers during daylight hours, and at times when you know others will be around. Give a quick "tour" of the vehicle, but let the buyer ask lots of questions.

Be ready to demonstrate that the vehicle works. For test rides, meet with the customer in a large parking lot and hold their driver's license while they ride through the lot.

Don't take cash. The safest currency is a cashier's check or money order (made out to you, not to "cash"). Sign the title only when the money is in hand.

Seller Safety:

Do not agree to accept any overpayment requiring a refund. A known scam has the "buyer" sending you a counterfeit cashiers check or money orders for more than your asking price, then asking you to "refund" the overage (usually by Wire Transfer) before your bank discovers the forgery. Use only respected and reputable escrow and shipping companies.
