Don’t Just Park Your Bike This Winter – Ride Warm
Many motorcycle enthusiasts speak of the freedom, the love of the speed and the feel of the wind as they ride. Bikers can often be very poetic of their love of the ride. But for some reason, that beloved machine stays in the garage for months every year. Ask, “Why” and you may get some mumbled excuses about winter traction, but the real truth is “It gets cold outside!” In some places, just going outside in winter is bad enough, but motorcycle riding adds quite a bit of wind chill factor to the mix. Winter riding isn’t just cold, it can be painfully cold! All is not lost, though. The cold doesn’t have to stop you. Fight back!
A good start is a warm motorcycle jacket and pants. Lots of companies make fairly worthy winter outerwear for riders, but it’s usually still not enough to keep you warm. However, the key to warmth on the road is layers and not just any layers will do. There is new technology, from adidas.com that can keep you warm, but still give you great comfort and mobility. You won’t have to walk out your door looking like the puffy “Snowman Boy,” like when your mother bundled you up on the way to school as a kid. For years, adidas has been well known for its summertime cooling clothing line called “Climacool,” with its sweat wicking technology, especially for running and golf shirts. Now adidas has come up with a new line, for warmth that they have branded as “Climaheat.” They have integrated it into a wide variety of products such as sweatshirts, long sleeved T’s, tights (like long underwear but more trendy), shoes, hoodies and lightweight jackets. They even have a nice beanie hat that will fit well under a helmet.
Something interesting about this new Climaheat line is that it uses multiple new technologies, some of which mimic nature. For example, some of the fabrics contain hollow fibers, which mimic the insulating power of animal hair. Others have inner baffles, which use empty air pockets to block the conduction of your body heat outside of the clothing. Special care has been taken with the openings of the clothing, such as cuffs on shirts, or the bottom of tights, and even the openings of shoes. These new “heat seals” keep warmth in. Many of the products also come with a tough outer layer to shed rain and snow. So gear up with these new adidas products and ride all winter long. Most people will think you must be an especially tough and hearty soul. Just tell them that its “invigorating” out there and the perfect time to ride.
