Published in the Official Gazette, Decree No. 2012-3 of 3 January 2012 formalizes the entry into force of new regulations relating to the Highway Traffic Act. Among those of particular interest to us, the text on the famous (?) Reflecting device required in fixed dimensions and date of entry into force:


The Minister of the Interior, Overseas, local authorities and immigration, Given the traffic, in particular Article R. 431-1-2,

Stops:
Art. First. – Not later than 1 January 2013, all drivers and passengers of motorcycles with a cylinder capacity exceeding 125 cm3 or a vehicle of category L5e of a power exceeding 15 kW must wear a fitted with a reflective device, corresponding either to French standards or other standards to ensure an equivalent level of safety. This equipment, in one or more parties must be a total surface area of at least 150 cm2. If this equipment is not built from the beginning to the garment, it is superimposed by any means.

The equipment must be worn on the upper body, with the exception of the helmet, from the belt line of the shoulders, so as to be visible to other road users. Failure to comply with this provision shall be liable to a fine of € 68 and a withdrawal of two points on the driver’s license. ”

If it is surprising that this requirement does not apply to users and engine capacities below 125 – so that many users of large cars run mainly in urban areas, too – it did not come out unless the interest of the safety equipment remains to be demonstrated, then it adds to our vehicles lights (required in broad daylight, remember) and other reflective devices to our existing helmets … Mr. Nevache, new Interministerial Delegate for Road Safety will therefore soon to formalize this new package of measures designed to poison a little more life users of motorized two-wheelers.
