Yamaha YZF-R6: Review

Yamaha YZF-R6

Small, powerful and extremely fast: The Yamaha YZF-R6 offers just the right mix to annoy more cars on the road.

The modified 2010s-model is a beneficiary of a newly programmed engine management. The modifications include a new muffler.

Everything together should provide a better power delivery throughout the rev range. The list price starts at € 13 999.

There is hardly radical sports equipment off the shelf as an R6. Your steering is used in short supply, the seat height of 850 millimeters, not ideal for an outing. At least after the first pit stop and fell in the socialization doubts the qualities of the super sports tourer. For sightseeing trips, there are de facto better motorcycles.

But those with only a single gene in the racing will appreciate the benefits of the most fascinating sport bikes. The 91 kW / 124 bhp and 65.7 Nm are incredibly powerful inline four-cylinder gas and burns spontaneously on request from an impressive firework that look not only hear but also can be.

Compared to its predecessor, the current model requires an understanding of the neighborhood but luckily not too far out. In general, the use of the road ready 189 kg lightweight extreme athletes after the revision made noticeably easier than before. Although the R6 was changed only in a few details, the stronger shear in the lower and medium engine speed range is immediately noticeable.

It is sufficient for rapid overtaking well, only one gear – instead of the previous two – in the fine shift down-to-use six-speed gearbox.

However, the rated speed of 14,500 leaves U / min no doubt that the R6 is designed for uncompromising sports rider. From this perspective makes the standard anti-hopping clutch sense to forgive the crude downshifts readily before the corner entry.

Has the pilot arranged only once with the active driving, heavy front seat position, you start the Yamaha more and more to enjoy. Like a freshly sharpened knife to cut through any kind of curves, can be deterred by anything or anyone and gives the driver excellent information about what’s going on beneath him.

The adjustable spring elements in each direction can be applied to different types of drivers individually. Just as perfect, the two four-piston radial-type stopper in the front wheel: pressure point and metering are exemplary. In an ABS, the manufacturer deliberately omitted. Among the candies are undoubtedly the stable delta box frame made of aluminum bridge and the elaborately shaped swing arm made of magnesium. Where there is a view also, the viewer finds the finest materials in high style.

The subject of fuel economy depends heavily on the behavior of the driver. On average, the R6 consumed 6.5 liters of premium fuel per 100 kilometers – in view of the performance offered too much. With a top speed of 265 km / h, it moves into big-bike spheres. It is particularly pleasing that the benefits of the 2010 model as well as land-race riders will benefit.

In none of the previous generations, the Yamaha YZF-R6 was enjoying the simpler and more digestible. Former poison dwarf has become more sociable. Fortunately, the bike has lost none of its winning charm. That there was always a bit expensive to have a special taste, is not dramatic, because either way, the R6 is worth every euro. It just depends on the position!
