Aprilia Shiver 750 – Review

Aprilia Shiver 750

Description:

Presented since the Italian motorcycle brand her unclad model Shiver 750 three years ago, a difficult time for Aprilia is gone: The expected success of this V2 model has not really set. Competitive models like the Ducati Monster or the Triumph Speed Triple has always been more popular than the Italian, even the same motorized Aprilia 750 Dorsoduro supermoto model has surpassed the 750 Shiver recently. Against this background, it was high time for a detailed care.

At first glance, the fall change from thin, the technical documents reveal very little intervention. Besides a new cockpit with plexi-mask-improved wind protection for the purpose scoop it has dealt mainly with the seating position. Thus, the seat cushion for better accessibility of the soil in the front area has shrunk to two centimeters, while extending the footrest for the driver and passenger sporty design.

A minor technical change is to report on the discs, they are now kept in the current wave design. ABS is still an extra cost option for Austria, is the functioning of both the radial as the ABS brake system flawlessly. Important for the ride is quite another: the rear wheel, with extremely wide 6.0 inches so far, is replaced by a 5.5-inch specimen. Together with the unchanged 180/55er tire improves driveability of Shiver significantly; it directs light into corners and holds the line now also good – a clear advantage to the previous version.

Can not convince all the engine tuning of the innovative from the start with a ride-by-wire system equipped Shiver. The nominally 70 kW / 95 hp at 9,000 rpm / payable V2 engine with 750 ccm displacement is characterized in the S-mode (Sport) by a very aggressive throttle response, which does not support the fun really.

The thing works better in T-mode, which stands for “Touring”. In sum, however, can the current Dorsoduro with the same engine run smoother. In the area of the throttle the Aprilia engineers could still do some fine tuning.

Basically, the 210-pound Shiver model year 2010, still sympathetic naked bike, which with its pithy V2 engine, the beautiful tubular aluminum frame combination, his edgy, aggressive appearance and his good suspension components when driving, despite the snappy throttle joy makes. This was so not necessarily for the reliability and processing points. Thus we can only hope that Aprilia has achieved in this area, the really decisive progress.

Then stand before the now costing € 8995 without ABS Shiver more successful times.
