Brand new Yamaha’s 2012 prototype at Brno on Monday in the official test, which followed the eleventh round of the season and had also, brought several innovations to the current YZR-M1.


Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies took advantage of good weather for their first outing on the new Yamaha and Spain signed the second fastest time of the day, 1’56 .253 on his 1000cc prototype. His teammate Ben Spies has in turn contributed to the first of two practice sessions and was third with a time of 1’56 .306. Both drivers have also continued to work on the 800cc M1 with new parts for the engine, the fairing and the frame.

Repsol Honda, Dani Pedrosa made his first laps with the 1000cc that he had not been able to test at Jerez earlier this year because of the injury to his collarbone. For his first Test, the Spaniard had two prototypes 1000cc with different settings and has completed his best lap of 1’57 .264. His teammate Casey Stoner, who had already driven the new Honda in Jerez, for his part, was the fastest rider of the day and came up to 0.023 of the circuit record by turning in 1’46 .168.

Valentino Rossi meanwhile had a very busy day with the Ducati and completed 74 laps on the Desmosedici GP11.1. Author of a best time of 1’58 .266, the Italian has tested a variety of settings, focusing mainly on his riding position and seat height. His teammate Nicky Hayden on his side started the day on GP11 before moving on GP11.1 and the American was quite pleased to have shot in 1’57 .533.

The Marc VDS Racing was also present for the further development of the prototype Suter 2012. Mika Kallio has entered a highly productive day with a fastest time of 2’00 .144 and has made significant progress on a motorcycle he was flying for the fourth time.

At Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Colin Edwards has worked on new Bridgestone tires and a new Yamaha electronic package. His team-mate Cal Crutchlow is on his side returned to the settings he used earlier this year in an attempt to regain its competitiveness. Toni Elías (LCR Honda) and Loris Capirossi (Pramac Racing) were also on track, with the aim to continue the work begun during the Grand Prix.
