For some time there at Shell gas stations warning label that one should stay as a motorcycle rider during refueling, even a gas station the other day I taught for alleged threats. I fill up for almost 25 years in the seats and have never heard that someone has paid it in flames. All just scare tactics or what’s behind it?


For security reasons it is unfortunately not permitted to Shell petrol stations, while staying refueling of motorcycles of those seats. The reason for this is that can catch fire when refueling fuel on hot gases or its parts such as exhaust or engine. The danger of electrostatic discharge by using the bike stand is lower. Unfortunately, this danger is not just theoretical. In two countries occurred in this tragic way, a fatal accident. Although this form of refueling at some bikes are not ideal, so we are the safety of our customers is paramount.

Research on this subject at various gas station associations, trade consultants, government agencies such as the Trade Inspection and inquiries were at competing companies, that the described shell action does constitute an exception. None of the relevant agencies and institutions has been a particular threat to the tanks.
